Dr. Sadanand P. Sardeshmukh
Bharatiya Sanskriti Darshan Trust is conducting many projects under Ayurved Hospital and Research Centre, Ayurvedic College, Panchakarma Centre, Atharva Ayurved Pharmaceuticals and Sam Sangeet Sabha (Department of Indian Classical Music), Yoga etc.
The founder trustee of Bharatiya Sanskriti Darshan Trust, Revered Prabhakar K. Sardeshmukh Maharaj was keen to treat incurable diseases like Cancer with the help of Ayurved. Revered Sardeshmukh Maharaj and I came across some incurable cancer patients during our medical practice. Some of these were referred by respected Balasaheb Bharade and Mrs. Indumati Bharade. It was observed that these patients were experiencing good symptomatic relief. Though complete cure for cancer is not yet found, in any of the medical sciences, the results were encouraging.
There were regular discussions regarding ‘Ayurved and Cancer’ with Dr. Arvind Kulkarni, oncologist and head of Department of Radiology, Bombay Hospital. The outcome of these discussions resulted in the establishment of the ‘Cancer Research Project’ in March 1994. Dr. Arvind Kulkarni has been the coordinator of the project and the inspiration behind it was Revered Sardeshmukh Maharaj and respected Balasaheb Bharade. Dr. Shirish Kumthekar, an oncologist, has actively participated in this project at Solapur. Dr. Prabha Godbole has been working in this project as an honorary physician. Dr. B. G. Sahasrabudhe, our honorary research consultant has been continuously monitoring the research work.
The trust publishes annual reports of the cancer patients in the research project. ‘Free Cancer Checkup Camps’ are also organised periodically by the trust at Pune, Mumbai and Solapur. ‘First International Conference on Ayurved for Cancer’ was organised on the 6th and 7th of December 1997 at Hotel Holiday Inn, Pune, under the guidance of Dr. Arvind Kulkarni, Chairman of the Conference. Dr. Prashant Suru coordinated the event.
An effort was made, to present the research work done during the period between 1994 – 1997. Various research papers were presented by the trust, at this conference along with many others through out the globe. More than 200 delegates participated in the two day event during which many researchers from abroad also presented their work. The open discussion on ‘Ayurved for Cancer’, from different angles was the highlight of the conference. The outcome of this project helped us to state that the Cancer patients can be offered relief from their symptoms, although complete cure cannot be offered yet.
‘Second International Conference on Ayurved for Cancer’ was organised at Balgandharva Rangmandir, Pune on the 9th and 10th of February 2002. Delegates from various countries presented their work. The conference achieved success at an international level with the blessings of Sadguru Mali Maharaj and the inspiration from Revered Sardeshmukh Maharaj. The positive response shown by the patients, who found relief with the help of Ayurvedic treatment is reassuring. This takes me a step further towards our goal.
‘Third International Conference on Ayurved for Cancer ’ was conducted on the 23rd, 24th and 25th of February 2007 at Mahabaleshwar. Delegates from various parts of the world and from different places in India who had an experience in cancer research, presented their work. About 210 delegates exchanged their views regarding the treatment aspects for cancer through various medical sciences. Padmabhushan Pandit Shriramjee Sharma, Dr. K. B. Grant, Dr. R. D. Lele, Dr. H. S. Palep, Dr. R. L. Marathe and other dignitaries gave enthusiastic guidance and valuable suggestions. I am grateful to Dr. Arvind Kulkarni, Dr. Shirish Kumthekar and Dr. B. G. I am also thankful to staff members of our Ayurved College and Atharva Ayurved Pharmaceuticals who helped us in every sense for the successful organization of number of events organised by trust. I also thank our patients trusted us and regorously followed the behaviour and dietary rules. I am happy and thankful to receive enthusiastic support from all our staff members.
