Ayurveda is the science of life which believes in the principle of ‘PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE’.

Maintain the health of healthy and cure the diseased is the foundation of Ayurvedic Therapy.
Ayurved emphasizes on maintaining a healthy body and therefore has described regimes to be followed on day – night basis, according to climate changes and seasonal changes. Environment changes cause imbalance within the level of the doshas – vata, pitta, kapha which gives rise to illness and henceforth to keep cancer at bay if we make changes in our routine based on the climatic changes, we will be in a better state to adjust to climatic changes.
To keep Cancer at bay one should follow the guidelines described in Ayurveda.
Panchakarma i.e. Shodhana Treatment is Body Purification Treatment which if followed based on guidelines given in Ayurvedic Text and under the observation of experienced Vaidyas will prove to be beneficial in keeping the Cancer away.

According to specific Cancers if we follow the guidelines given in Ayurveda for maintaining health of particular organ will help us to keep the Cancer of that particular organ at bay.

Preventive measures for Oral Cavity related Cancer

  • Proper cleaning of Teeth and Gums
  • Proper cleaning of Tongue
  • Proper cleaning of Oral cavity
  • One should brush the teeth every morning, at bedtime and after every meals
  • For brushing and cleaning the teeth use of bitter, astringent and pungent tasted herbs like Vata, Khair, Nimb, Karanj should be used
  • A 6 to 7 inch long twig of medicinal herb should be taken chewed at on end like a brush, the same should be used to clean the teeth
  • Powder of Triphala (Amla, Harda and Behada) mixed with Honey should be used for cleaning the teeth
  • To achieve firmness of gums massaging the gums with sesamum oil or medicated oils should be done
  • To clean the tongue one should use a metal or plastic spatula, which reduces stickiness of the tongue and improves the functioning of taste buds
  • After brushing and cleaning the teeth and the tongue, one should gargle with hot water, sesamum oil, milk or medicinal decoctions to avoid bad smell of mouth and to maintain the hygiene of the oral cavity
  • Habit of Tobacco, Gutka is a major cause for oral Cancer
  • Maintenance of the oral hygiene is an effective way to prevent oral Cancer!

Preventive measures for Brain related Cancer

  • Centres of all sensory organs are situated in brain
  • Nose is the pathway to the brain for administration of medicines

1. Nasya (Nasal Drops)

  • Cow’s ghee or medicated oil’s 2 drops in each nostrils daily

Benefits :-

  • All the sensory centres are nourished
  • Face becomes fresh and glowing
  • It prevents hair loss and greying of hair (side effects of chemotherapy and local radiotherapy)

2. Anjana

  • Eye salves
  • Prepared from cow’s ghee or castor oil

Benefits :-

  • Cleanses the eyes and improves eyesight

3. Netra Tarpana

  • Make circular wall of 2 inches of black gram dough around the eye. Pour medicated ghee or milk or medicated oil in the same. Retain it for specified period

Benefits :-

  • Cures diseases of eyes
  • Improves eyesight

4. Head massage – Application of oil on head

  • Shiro Abhyanga – Application and massaging of medicinal of oils on head
  • Shiropichu – Holding a swab soaked in medicated oil on head for specified time
  • Shirodhara – Pouring medicated oil, decoctions on head

Benefits :-

  • All the above procedures helps to reduce mental stress and tensions

Preventive measures for Skin related Cancer

  • Skin covers the entire body
  • Healthy skin is glowing, soft and toned. Due to the present polluted atmosphere the skin becomes dull and dry
  • Due to the continuous exposure to pollution the skin is affected and can cause skin Cancers

1. Abhyanga (Oil massage)

  • Whole body massage is recommended
  • If not possible atleast head, feet massage should be done daily

  • Improves blood circulation
  • Skin becomes soft & glowing
  • Reduces fatigue, reduces mental stress
  • Reduces hair fall and greying
  • Feet massage is useful in burning sensation of feet and disturbed sleep

2. Udvartana

  • Application and rubbing of medicinal and aromatic powders all over the body (Either dry or by adding water / oil.)

Benefits :-

  • Improves blood circulation
  • Strengthens and improves tone of skin
  • Reduces itching

Preventive measures for Skin related Cancer

  • Cancer is caused by Abnormal growth of body cells. The major reason behind this abnormal growth is reduced strength and immunity. Exercise helps one to increase the body strenght as well as immunity power. Hence it is advised that Exercise should be done on regular basis by everybody.
    One more thing to keep in mind while doing exercise is the quantum of exercise should be decided based on individual strength.
